Building Steps of TAHARA Fighting kite

List of materilas

@
  • Frame:-------- Sooty bamboo

  • Hummer:-------Pleioblastus simonii bamboo 2cm diameter

  • Paper:---------Japanese Washi: 9 sheets of 41.5cm x 28.5cm

  • Bridle:---------Hemp yarn

  • Corner string:---Kevlar

  • Paste:----------Starch

    Step-01

    Use sooty bamboo as is.

Use double edged knife for spritting bamboo.

Head frame (A) should be made so that even curve can be gotten.

Skew frame (C) has rather tight strength at the lower side comparing with upper side.

Vertical frame (B) has rather tight strength at the upper side comparing with lower side.
    Step-02

The know how for building Tahara kite.

Do not use a plane for shaping frames.

The strength of bowing of the frame is mastered with many experiences.

Do not use a balance, scale board, weight.

    Step-03

Use a marking guagefor determining the width of frames.

Dimension of frame is 9mm wide x 5-6mm.

The strength of the top frame A is 460g.

The strength of diagonal frame C is 1000g.

The vertical framme B is 500g.
    Step-04

Make holes with drill at the point of 1cm apart from the both ends of top frame(A).

Make a hole with drill at the point of 1cm apart from the both end of slant frame(C).
    Step-05

Cut the top of both ends of top frame(A) by knife cut.

Cut the top of slant frame(C) by knife cut.

Put into together top frame and slant frame so as to fit both hole of the frames.

    Step-06

Insert the rivet made by bamboo into the hole.

Bind the cross point of slant frames(C) temporarily. Do not inset a rivet.

    Step-07

Bind the vertical center frame(B) at the center of the top frame(A).

The length of vertical center protruded from the top frame is 2.5cm.

Bind the cross point of the vertical center frame(B) and slant frames(C) temporarily.

    Bind the corner string.
    Step-08

Insert the corner string through the lower hole of slant frames.

Tghten the string so as to meet the length of the drawing.

    Step-09

Adjust the length of corner string so as to meet the length defined on the drawing.

Cut the lower end of the vertical center frame with knife and insert the string of bottom side into the split and bind the vertical center frame and the string.

    Step-10

Bind the cross point of the vertical center frame(B) and slant frames(C) firmly.

Comfirm the depth of bowing at the center cross point. The length of the depth should be 6cm.

    Step-11

Comfirm that the depth of bowing of both slant frames are the same length.

The difference between the depth of bowing of slant frames causes unstable flight feature.

    Step-12

Confirm the each length of the kite as shown in the drawing.

Bind the additional vertical frame along the vertical center frame.

Paste cut paper around the vertical frames 13cm from the top frame and 20cm from the bottom point of the vertical frame.

    Step-13

Put starch paste on nine papers.

    Step-14

Overlap width of paper should be within 9mm.

    Step-15

    Wait until paper will dry.

    Step-16

Blow a bit of spray on the dried paper.

Smooth out crumped area of the paper bu pulling the corner of the paper.

Put on the starch paste on the frames.

    Step-17

Place the frame on the paper and paste with balance.

Start pasting from the lower part of the kite.

    Step-18

Take care so as to balance the tightness of the paper.

    Step-19

Cut the paper along with the peripheral string with surplus width of 1cm outside of the peripheral string.

Paste the paper along with the peripheral string.

    Step-20

Paste both sides of the paper.

    Step-21

Finally paste the paper on the top frame.

Blow a bit of spray on the kite uniformly.

    Step-22

Attach the bridles at the top of vertical center frame and the middle poin between the cross point of vertical frame and slant frames and the lower end of the vertical frame.

    Step-23

Sum of the length of the bridles should not exceed 119cm.

    Step-24

The bridle critical adjustment point is at the point of 26.5cm from the top frame(A).

    Step-25

    Make a bamboo hummer.

    Step-26

Attach the hummer on the top of kite.

    Step-27

After completed, the symbol of the group or town is painted on the face of the kite.

This painting is very simple so as to be distingushed in the high sky during fighting competition.
