Messing "around" with kites

I wonder what can go wrong with this! Too much mobility at the center?

At the beach to give it a try. The winds are a bit heavy but it should be OK.
I had a nice clean lift off, but broke a vertical spar into the first turn.

Whoops! Looks like I should use an external ferrule . . . maybe a stouter stick . . .

Down spar connectors are made up of an APA fitting with an internal ferrule held in by friction. This slips in to the end of the carbon tube. The frame connection is made with an o-ring

I shortened up a Shockwave leading edge by 3 or 4 inches to use as the cross bar. It's attached to the frame using Rev end caps and o-rings.

The down spar at the cross bar is held with an o-ring.

No pic yet At the center of the kite(s) the junction of the cross bar and two rings is held with an o-ring in a similar manner as the cross bar and down spar.
