Outside edges and vent are all hot cut with no hems or edge binding.

The pattern is 45" wide and the tabs extend out 1/4" from the edge of the points. This gives a snug fit when attaching to the 45 7/8" carbon frame/circle with rubber o-rings ( I.D. = 11/16", O.D. = 7/8").

The tabs are made from 1/4" polyester grosgrain ribbon.

The center hole is 15" which is 1/3 the width of the sail.

The scalloped edge was created using a curved rule.

Alternatively a carbon rod can be set into a bow using a string tied to the ends. Adjust the bow until the curve looks right. Not too deep, not too shallow.

I took an Olfa circle cutter and extended its range by clamping the beam to an aluminum bar and using a trammel point.

With this setup I was able to cut a 15" circle template out of oak tag which I then used to hot cut the vent. The oak tag got a little singed, but held up surprisingly well against the heat of my hot cutter.

Sail, O-ring, Frame Connection
The o-ring is pushed through the loop formed by the tab. The frame is then threaded through the two loops formed by the o-ring.

This method of attachment was developed in order to protect the tabs from abrasion when the edge of the kite hits the ground or pavement. The tab is now inside the ring.

When the o-ring gets torn up you can get a replacement at any hardware store.

If the tab gets torn up, you need to repair the kite.
